Ways of Protecting Veneers Against Cracking

Posted on 6/15/2019 by Rho Family Dentistry
Ways of Protecting Veneers Against CrackingYou probably saved up for a long time to afford your veneers. Now that you have them, you have the smile you have always wanted. However, if you want to keep your veneers looking great, there are a few things you need to do in order to protect them.

Care for Your Veneers as You Would Your Normal Teeth

Almost everyone grows up hearing their parents tell them not to chew on ice. And almost everyone ignores their parents until the day they crack a tooth. Well, if you have not been in the habit of following your parents' advice, now would be a great time to start.

Avoid doing things like crunching ice, eating foods that are extremely crunchy, and holding off on overly sticky foods such as taffy. Yes, you may enjoy these foods, but the few moments of enjoyment you get from them is not worth the risk of cracking or chipping a denture.

In addition to ice and taffy, consider other foods before you eat them. Foods such as some types of tortilla chips, beef jerky, certain types of chewing gum, and other similar foods and snacks can place undue wear and strain on your veneers. While you can eat most foods that you normally would enjoy, it may be time to reconsider your passion for certain types of foods. Your new smile is worth preserving!

Brush Your Veneers Just Like You Brush Your Teeth

Likewise, treat your veneers just like your natural teeth when it comes time for your daily oral hygiene routine. Keeping the veneers clean and sparkling will assist in their longevity.

If you have any questions about what else you can do to protect your veneers, give us a call. We're happy to spend a few minutes visiting with you about the matter.
