Berries Are a Great Way to Whiten and Give Nutrition to Teeth

Red wine, tea, and coffee are all known to cause dental stains and affect your smile. However, there are foods that can do the opposite of that and whiten your teeth. As much as they are not as thorough as professional dental whitening, they will help improve your smile. One of these foods is berries. Not only will berries leave your teeth whiter, but they also supply them with important nutrients.
Berries and Teeth Whitening
Berries are excellent whitening agents because they contain a tooth-whitening enzyme known as malic acid. This acid is safe and effective in whitening your teeth and giving you a beautiful smile. Apart from eating berries orally, you can also use other methods to benefit from their whitening effects.
You can use one method by crushing one berry and adding ½ teaspoon of baking soda and mixing it thoroughly. Then, dip your toothbrush into it and coat your teeth with the contents. Let the mixture settle for a few minutes before brushing with regular toothpaste. The malic acid in berries allows particles that cause dental stains to break away, leaving your teeth brighter. Brushing with regular toothpaste right after will get rid of the stain-causing particles from your teeth.
It is important to ensure that you get rid of all the mixture from your teeth to avoid more stains. Keep in mind that berries are acidic, and using them excessively can damage your enamel. Acids will wear down the enamel and leave your teeth exposed to bacteria. This could result in oral conditions like tooth decay and cavities. You should also avoid using stain-causing drinks like red wine to maintain your white teeth. If you have to drink them, always use a straw. Straws help reduce the contact between your teeth and the drinks, limiting damage. Contact our offices for more information on dental whitening procedures.
