Chipped Teeth
Sacramento, CA

Smiling older woman who fixed her chipped teeth at Rho Family Dentistry in Sacramento, CABeing able to quickly fix a chipped or damaged tooth is important and at Rho Family Dentistry we can determine if a quick-acting bonding procedure is right for you so you don’t have to wait weeks for a dental implant to be fabricated and delivered.

Getting a Quick Fix with Bonding

As the name implies, bonding involves the dentist directly bonding a tooth-colored resin material to your damaged tooth to repair chips or cracks. When it comes to repairing damaged teeth, bonding is the simplest option. It involves no pain and can often be done in a single appointment. One of the few downsides to bonding is that sometimes it cannot be used if the damage to the tooth is too severe.

The application process is easy. The dentist will first prepare the damaged tooth, mix the tooth bonding material, apply it to the tooth, make sure it is shaped to match the rest of your smile, and then let it harden with the help of an ultraviolet light.

The dentist will make sure that the bonding material matches your tooth color as much as possible. Once the process is complete, you are free to go on your way without any major aftercare restrictions beyond taking it easy with certain food and drinks, and avoiding tobacco use for 24 to 48 hours. As always, you are encouraged to keep up healthy brushing and flossing habits. The dentist may also discuss with you the reason you needed the tooth bonded in the first place, and what actions can be taken so that none of your other teeth get damaged in the same way again.

Beyond the Initial Bond

You can expect your bond to last between 5 to 10 years before it needs to be inspected and potentially reapplied by the dentist. Dental bonding can be used for more than just fixing a chipped tooth. They can be used to fill in gaps between teeth or raise the height of a tooth that sits lower than the rest and is causing an uncomfortable bite.

While they are quick and easy to install and have a lot of different uses, dental bonds are not designed to last as long as crowns or veneers. You can prolong the life of your bond by avoiding hard foods when possible or trying to ensure you are not putting a lot of bite force on the tooth that has been bonded. Unlike certain types of crowns or veneers, dental bonding material is also more susceptible to staining.

One of the most common things we hear from patients after they get a dental bond is, “That was easier than I thought!” At Rho Family Dentistry, we know getting your tooth fixed and getting back on with your life can be important, which is why we offer dental bonding procedures.
