Clear Invisalign® Aligners Sacramento, CA
Misaligned teeth can have a major impact on the appearance of your smile. Your appearance is not the only thing affected by crooked teeth. Alignment issues often cause serious oral health issues that can significantly impact your overall quality of life. When your teeth are crooked, they are harder to properly care for, putting you at a greater risk of developing cavities and gum disease. You may experience uneven tooth wear. You may also experience serious jaw pain that can make even opening and close your mouth painful. For decades, metal braces have been the solution of choice for misaligned teeth. At Rho Family Dentistry, we offer an alternative, Invisalign.
Treatment with Metal Braces
Metal braces have been around for a while. They are still a popular treatment option today, being highly effective at correcting alignment issues with your teeth and your jaws. Braces consist of three major components, brackets, rings and archwires. The archwires are responsible for the bulk of the work and are responsible for the movement and stabilization of your teeth. They are anchored at the back of the mouth by the metal rings and span across the teeth, attached to a bracket on each tooth. While effective, metal braces do have one major downside. They leave you with a shiny metal smile that can have a serious impact on your confidence.
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign provides an alternative to traditional metal braces. Instead of treating crooked teeth with highly visible brackets and wires, Invisalign uses a series of clear plastic aligners. The aligners are custom created just for your needs based on digital impressions of your mouth. The aligners are worn over the teeth and disappear once in place. If invisible treatment for crooked teeth is not enough, Invisalign aligners are also removable. However, to achieve optimal results in the shortest amount of time, they should be worn between 20 and 22 hours each day. They should only be removed to eat and to brush your teeth.
How Does Invisalign Work?
Invisalign uses a series of custom aligners. Each set of aligners is slightly different from the one before it, which helps to guide your teeth into proper alignment. They are meant to be worn for two weeks at a time before changing to the next set. Depending on your needs, you may go through anywhere from 18 to 30 sets of aligners. Similar to how traditional braces work, the rigid plastic of your aligners places pressure on your teeth, widening the periodontal ligaments to move your teeth where they need to go and then stabilizing them in their new positions. When treatment is complete, we provide you with a retainer to help you maintain your beautiful new smile.
What are the Benefits of Invisalign?
Invisalign offers numerous benefits, including:
• |
No more metal mouth. Invisalign aligners are made of clear plastic and disappear from view when slipped in place over your teeth.
|
• |
You are not limited on the foods you can eat. Invisalign is meant to be removed when you eat, so you can continue to enjoy all of your favorite foods without fear of bending wires or popping off brackets.
|
• |
Oral care is easier. Because you remove your aligners when you brush and floss your teeth, you do not have to worry about working around brackets and wires.
|
• |
The aligners are more comfortable than metal braces.
|
• |
You do not have as many visits to the office to work around.
|
• |
Treatment times with Invisalign are shorter. Results are often achieved in anywhere from 9 to 15 months, with most patients completing treatment in less than a year. |
